Habakkuk 2:14-16 1599 Geneva Bible (GNV)

14 For the earth shall [a]be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.

15 Woe unto him that giveth his neighbor [b]drink: thou joinest thine heat, and makest him drunken also, that thou mayest see their privities.

16 Thou art filled with shame [c]for glory: drink thou also, and be made naked: the cup of the Lord’s right hand shall be turned unto thee, and shameful spewing shall be for thy glory.

Footnotes:

  2. Habakkuk 2:15 He reproacheth thus the king of Babylon, who as he was drunken with covetousness and cruelty, so he provoked others to the same, and inflamed them by his rage, and so in the end brought them to shame.
  3. Habakkuk 2:16 Whereas thou thoughtest to have glory of these thy doings, they shall turn to thy shame: for thou shalt drink of the same cup with others in thy turn.

Habakkuk 2:14-16 New International Version (NIV)

14 For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord
as the waters cover the sea.

15 “Woe to him who gives drink to his neighbors,
pouring it from the wineskin till they are drunk,
so that he can gaze on their naked bodies!
16 You will be filled with shame instead of glory.
Now it is your turn! Drink and let your nakedness be exposed[a]!
The cup from the Lord’s right hand is coming around to you,
and disgrace will cover your glory.
