You [a]trampled the nations in anger.

Nor do they understand His counsel;
For He will gather them (B)like sheaves to the threshing floor.

13 “Arise(C) and (D)thresh, O daughter of Zion;
For I will make your horn iron,
And I will make your hooves bronze;
You shall (E)beat in pieces many peoples;
(F)I will consecrate their gain to the Lord,
And their substance to (G)the Lord of the whole earth.”

Redemption Remembered in Present Dishonor

To the Chief Musician. A (A)Contemplation[a] of the sons of Korah.

44 We have heard with our ears, O God,
(B)Our fathers have told us,
The deeds You did in their days,
In days of old:
(C)You drove out the [b]nations with Your hand,
But them You planted;
You afflicted the peoples, and cast them out.
For (D)they did not gain possession of the land by their own sword,
Nor did their own arm save them;
But it was Your right hand, Your arm, and the light of Your countenance,
(E)Because You favored them.

With their kings
And the people of the land,
That they might do with them as they wished.

The Destruction of Jericho

Now (A)Jericho was securely shut up because of the children of Israel; none went out, and none came in. And the Lord said to Joshua: “See! (B)I have given Jericho into your hand, its (C)king, and the mighty men of valor. You shall march around the city, all you men of war; you shall go all around the city once. This you shall do six days. And seven priests shall bear seven (D)trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark. But the seventh day you shall march around the city (E)seven times, and (F)the priests shall blow the trumpets. It shall come to pass, when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, that all the people shall shout with a great shout; then the wall of the city will fall down flat. And the people shall go up every man straight before him.”

Then Joshua the son of Nun called the priests and said to them, “Take up the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark of the Lord.” And he said to the people, “Proceed, and march around the city, and let him who is armed advance before the ark of the Lord.”

So it was, when Joshua had spoken to the people, that the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the Lord advanced and blew the trumpets, and the ark of the covenant of the Lord followed them. The armed men went before the priests who blew the trumpets, (G)and the rear guard came after the ark, while the priests continued blowing the trumpets. 10 Now Joshua had commanded the people, saying, “You shall not shout or make any noise with your voice, nor shall a word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I say to you, ‘Shout!’ Then you shall shout.” 11 So he had (H)the ark of the Lord circle the city, going around it once. Then they came into the camp and [a]lodged in the camp.

12 And Joshua rose early in the morning, (I)and the priests took up the ark of the Lord.

23 (A)But Sihon would not allow Israel to pass through his territory. So Sihon gathered all his people together and [a]went out against Israel in the wilderness, (B)and he came to Jahaz and fought against Israel. 24 Then (C)Israel defeated him with the edge of the sword, and took possession of his land from the Arnon to the Jabbok, as far as the people of Ammon; for the border of the people of Ammon was fortified. 25 So Israel took all these cities, and Israel (D)dwelt in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon and in all its villages. 26 For Heshbon was the city of Sihon king of the Amorites, who had fought against the former king of Moab, and had taken all his land from his hand as far as the Arnon. 27 Therefore those who speak in [b]proverbs say:

“Come to Heshbon, let it be built;
Let the city of Sihon be repaired.

28 “For (E)fire went out from Heshbon,
A flame from the city of Sihon;
It consumed (F)Ar of Moab,
The lords of the (G)heights of the Arnon.
29 Woe to you, (H)Moab!
You have perished, O people of (I)Chemosh!
He has given his (J)sons as fugitives,
And his (K)daughters into captivity,
To Sihon king of the Amorites.

30 “But we have shot at them;
Heshbon has perished (L)as far as Dibon.
Then we laid waste as far as Nophah,
Which reaches to (M)Medeba.”

31 Thus Israel dwelt in the land of the Amorites. 32 Then Moses sent to [c]spy out (N)Jazer; and they took its villages and drove out the Amorites who were there.

King Og Defeated(O)

33 (P)And they turned and went up by the way to (Q)Bashan. So Og king of Bashan went out against them, he and all his people, to battle (R)at Edrei. 34 Then the Lord said to Moses, (S)“Do not fear him, for I have [d]delivered him into your hand, with all his people and his land; and (T)you shall do to him as you did to Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon.” 35 (U)So they defeated him, his sons, and all his people, until there was no survivor left him; and they took possession of his land.
