Jacob Buys Land in Shechem
18 After Jacob had arrived safely from Paddan-aram,[a] he entered the city of Shechem, which was located in the territory of Canaan, and encamped facing that city. 19 Then he bought a parcel of land for 100 pieces of silver from the descendants of Hamor, Shechem’s father. He pitched his tent there, 20 set up an altar, and named it El-elohe-israel.[b]

And he camped before the city. 19 And he bought a piece of land where he pitched his tent for one hundred pieces of money[b] from the hand of the sons of Hamor, father of Shechem. 20 And there he erected an altar and called it “El Elohe Israel.”[c]
