Genesis 3:14-19

New American Standard Bible

¹⁴Then the Lord God said to the serpent,

“^(A)Because you have done this,
Cursed are you more than all the livestock,
And more than any animal of the field;
On your belly you shall go,
And ^(B)dust you shall eat
All the days of your life;
¹⁵And I will ^[a]^(C)make enemies
Of you and the woman,
And of your ^[b]offspring and her ^[c]Descendant;
^(D)He shall ^[d]bruise you on the head,
And you shall bruise Him on the heel.”

¹⁶To the woman He said,

“I will greatly multiply
Your pain ^[e]in childbirth,
In pain you shall ^(E)deliver children;
Yet your desire will be for your husband,
And ^(F)he shall rule over you.”

¹⁷Then to Adam He said, “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree about which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat from it’;

^(G)Cursed is the ground because of you;
^(H)With ^[f]hard labor you shall eat from it
All the days of your life.
¹⁸Both thorns and thistles it shall grow for you;
Yet you shall eat the ^[g]plants of the field;
¹⁹By the sweat of your face
You shall eat bread,
Until you ^(I)return to the ground,
Because ^(J)from it you were taken;
For you are dust,
And to dust you shall return.”

¹⁸For I consider that the sufferings of this present time ^(A)are not worthy to be compared with the ^(B)glory that is to be revealed to us. ¹⁹For the ^(C)eagerly awaiting creation waits for ^(D)the revealing of the ^(E)sons and daughters of God. ²⁰For the creation ^(F)was subjected to ^(G)futility, not willingly, but ^(H)because of Him who subjected it, ^[a]in hope ²¹that ^(I)the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God. ²²For we know that the whole creation ^(J)groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now. ²³^(K)And not only that, but also we ourselves, having ^(L)the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves ^(M)groan within ourselves, ^(N)waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons and daughters, ^(O)the redemption of our body. ²⁴For ^(P)in hope we have been saved, but ^(Q)hope that is seen is not hope; for who hopes for what he already sees? ²⁵But ^(R)if we hope for what we do not see, through perseverance we wait eagerly for it.
