Jacob’s Dream at Bethel
10 Jacob left Beer-sheba and went toward Haran. 11 He came to a certain place and stayed there for the night, because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones of the place, he put it under his head and lay down in that place. 12 And he dreamed that there was a ladder[a] set up on the earth, the top of it reaching to heaven; and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. 13 And the Lord stood beside him[b] and said, “I am the Lord, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie I will give to you and to your offspring; 14 and your offspring shall be like the dust of the earth, and you shall spread abroad to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south; and all the families of the earth shall be blessed[c] in you and in your offspring. 15 Know that I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.” 16 Then Jacob woke from his sleep and said, “Surely the Lord is in this place—and I did not know it!” 17 And he was afraid, and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.”

Prese una delle pietre del luogo, se la mise per capezzale e lì si coricò. 12 Fece un sogno: una scala poggiava sulla terra, mentre la sua cima toccava il cielo; e gli angeli di Dio salivano e scendevano per la scala. 13 Il Signore stava al di sopra di essa e gli disse: «Io sono il Signore, il Dio di Abraamo tuo padre e il Dio d’Isacco. La terra sulla quale tu stai coricato, io la darò a te e alla tua discendenza. 14 La tua discendenza sarà come la polvere della terra e tu ti estenderai a occidente e a oriente, a settentrione e a meridione, e tutte le famiglie della terra saranno benedette in te e nella tua discendenza. 15 Io sono con te, e ti proteggerò dovunque tu andrai e ti ricondurrò in questo paese, perché io non ti abbandonerò prima di aver fatto quello che ti ho detto».
16 Quando Giacobbe si svegliò dal sonno, disse: «Certo, il Signore è in questo luogo e io non lo sapevo!» 17 Ebbe paura e disse: «Com’è tremendo questo luogo! Questa non è altro che la casa di Dio, e questa è la porta del cielo!»

11 Und er kam an einen Ort, wo er über Nacht blieb; denn die Sonne war untergegangen. Und er nahm von den Steinen jenes Orts und legte sie unter sein Haupt und legte sich an dem Ort schlafen.
12 Und er hatte einen Traum; und siehe, eine Leiter[a] war auf die Erde gestellt, die reichte mit der Spitze bis an den Himmel. Und siehe, auf ihr stiegen die Engel Gottes auf und nieder.
13 Und siehe, der Herr stand über ihr und sprach: Ich bin der Herr, der Gott deines Vaters Abraham und der Gott Isaaks; das Land, auf dem du liegst, will ich dir und deinem Samen geben.
14 Und dein Same soll werden wie der Staub der Erde, und nach Westen, Osten, Norden und Süden sollst du dich ausbreiten; und in dir und in deinem Samen[b] sollen gesegnet werden alle Geschlechter der Erde!
15 Und siehe, ich bin mit dir, und ich will dich behüten überall, wo du hinziehst, und dich wieder in dieses Land bringen. Denn ich will dich nicht verlassen, bis ich vollbracht habe, was ich dir zugesagt habe!
16 Als nun Jakob von seinem Schlaf erwachte, sprach er: Wahrlich, der Herr ist an diesem Ort, und ich wusste es nicht!
17 Und er fürchtete sich und sprach: Wie furchtgebietend ist diese Stätte! Hier ist nichts anderes als das Haus Gottes, und dies ist die Pforte des Himmels!

10 Elindult Jákób Beérsebából, és Hárán felé tartott.
11 Egy olyan helyre ért, ahol eltölthette az éjszakát, mikor a nap lement. Fogott egyet az ott levő kövek közül, azt a feje alá tette, és lefeküdt azon a helyen.
12 És álmot látott: Egy létra volt a földre állítva, amelynek teteje az égig ért, és Isten angyalai jártak azon fel és le.
13 Odafönt pedig az Úr állt, és ezt mondta: Én vagyok az Úr, atyádnak, Ábrahámnak Istene, és Izsáknak Istene! Ezt a földet, amelyen fekszel, neked adom és a te utódaidnak.
14 Annynnyi utódod lesz, mint a föld pora, terjeszkedni fogsz nyugatra és keletre, északra és délre, és áldást nyer általad, meg utódod által a föld minden nemzetsége.
15 Mert én veled vagyok, megőrizlek téged, akárhova mégy, és visszahozlak erre a földre. Bizony, nem hagylak el, amíg nem teljesítem, amit megígértem neked.

10 Jacob avait quitté Beer-Sheva et marchait en direction de Harân[a]. 11 Comme le soleil se couchait, il prit une pierre pour s’en faire un oreiller et se coucha pour passer ainsi la nuit dans le lieu qu’il avait atteint. 12 Dans son rêve, il vit une sorte d’escalier reposant sur la terre, et dont le haut atteignait le ciel. Et voici que des anges de Dieu montaient et descendaient cet escalier[b]. 13 L’Eternel lui-même se tenait tout en haut et lui dit : Je suis l’Eternel, le Dieu d’Abraham ton ancêtre et le Dieu d’Isaac. Cette terre sur laquelle tu reposes, je te la donnerai, à toi et à ta descendance. 14 Elle sera aussi nombreuse que la poussière de la terre ; elle étendra son territoire dans toutes les directions : vers l’ouest et l’est, vers le nord et le sud. Par toi et par elle, toutes les familles de la terre seront bénies[c]. 15 Et voici : je suis moi-même avec toi, je te garderai partout où tu iras ; et je te ferai revenir vers cette région ; je ne t’abandonnerai pas mais j’accomplirai ce que je t’ai promis.
16 Jacob s’éveilla et s’écria : Assurément, l’Eternel est en ce lieu, et moi je l’ignorais !
17 Il fut saisi de crainte et ajouta : Ce lieu est redoutable ! Ce ne peut être que le sanctuaire de Dieu. C’est ici la porte du ciel.
