21 And after he became the father of Serug, Reu lived 207 years and had other sons and daughters.

22 When Serug had lived 30 years, he became the father of Nahor.(A) 23 And after he became the father of Nahor, Serug lived 200 years and had other sons and daughters.

24 When Nahor had lived 29 years, he became the father of Terah.(B) 25 And after he became the father of Terah, Nahor lived 119 years and had other sons and daughters.

26 After Terah had lived 70 years, he became the father of Abram,(C) Nahor(D) and Haran.(E)

Abram’s Family

27 This is the account(F) of Terah’s family line.

Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor(G) and Haran. And Haran became the father of Lot.(H) 28 While his father Terah was still alive, Haran died in Ur of the Chaldeans,(I) in the land of his birth. 29 Abram and Nahor(J) both married. The name of Abram’s wife was Sarai,(K) and the name of Nahor’s wife was Milkah;(L) she was the daughter of Haran, the father of both Milkah and Iskah. 30 Now Sarai was childless because she was not able to conceive.(M)

31 Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot(N) son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law(O) Sarai, the wife of his son Abram, and together they set out from Ur of the Chaldeans(P) to go to Canaan.(Q) But when they came to Harran,(R) they settled there.

32 Terah(S) lived 205 years, and he died in Harran.

The Call of Abram

12 The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household(T) to the land(U) I will show you.(V)

“I will make you into a great nation,(W)
    and I will bless you;(X)
I will make your name great,
and you will be a blessing.[a](Y)
I will bless those who bless you,
and whoever curses you I will curse;(Z)
and all peoples on earth
    will be blessed through you.(AA)[b]

So Abram went, as the Lord had told him; and Lot(AB) went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old(AC) when he set out from Harran.(AD) He took his wife Sarai,(AE) his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulated(AF) and the people(AG) they had acquired in Harran, and they set out for the land of Canaan,(AH) and they arrived there.

Abram traveled through the land(AI) as far as the site of the great tree of Moreh(AJ) at Shechem.(AK) At that time the Canaanites(AL) were in the land. The Lord appeared to Abram(AM) and said, “To your offspring[c] I will give this land.(AN)(AO) So he built an altar there to the Lord,(AP) who had appeared to him.

From there he went on toward the hills east of Bethel(AQ) and pitched his tent,(AR) with Bethel on the west and Ai(AS) on the east. There he built an altar to the Lord and called on the name of the Lord.(AT)

Then Abram set out and continued toward the Negev.(AU)

21 And Reu lived after he begat Serug two hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters.

22 And Serug lived thirty years, and begat Nahor:

23 And Serug lived after he begat Nahor two hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.

24 And Nahor lived nine and twenty years, and begat Terah:

25 And Nahor lived after he begat Terah an hundred and nineteen years, and begat sons and daughters.

26 And Terah lived seventy years, and begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran.

27 Now these are the generations of Terah: Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begat Lot.

28 And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees.

29 And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram's wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.

30 But Sarai was barren; she had no child.

31 And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son's son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.

32 And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran.

12 Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:

And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:

And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

So Abram departed, as the Lord had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.

And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.

And Abram passed through the land unto the place of Sichem, unto the plain of Moreh. And the Canaanite was then in the land.

And the Lord appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the Lord, who appeared unto him.

And he removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Hai on the east: and there he builded an altar unto the Lord, and called upon the name of the Lord.

And Abram journeyed, going on still toward the south.
