¹² So his sons did for him just as he had commanded them.

¹⁶ And ^(A)they were carried back to Shechem and laid in ^(B)the tomb that Abraham bought for a sum of money from the sons of Hamor, the father of Shechem.

Jacob’s Death and Burial

²⁹ Then he charged them and said to them: “I ^(A)am to be gathered to my people; ^(B)bury me with my fathers ^(C)in the cave that is in the field of Ephron the Hittite, ³⁰ in the cave that is in the field of Machpelah, which is before Mamre in the land of Canaan, ^(D)which Abraham bought with the field of Ephron the Hittite as a possession for a burial place. ^31 (E)There they buried Abraham and Sarah his wife, ^(F)there they buried Isaac and Rebekah his wife, and there I buried Leah. ³² The field and the cave that is there were purchased from the sons of Heth.”

6 Children, ^(B)obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.

²⁹ When the time ^(A)drew near that Israel must die, he called his son Joseph and said to him, “Now if I have found favor in your sight, please ^(B)put your hand under my thigh, and ^(C)deal kindly and truly with me. ^(D)Please do not bury me in Egypt, ³⁰ but ^(E)let me lie with my fathers; you shall carry me out of Egypt and ^(F)bury me in their burial place.”

And he said, “I will do as you have said.”

³¹ Then he said, “Swear to me.” And he swore to him. So ^(G)Israel bowed himself on the head of the bed.
