⁵ but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast.

⁴ By faith Abel brought God a better offering than Cain did. By faith he was commended^(A) as righteous, when God spoke well of his offerings.^(B) And by faith Abel still speaks, even though he is dead.^(C)

⁴⁵ When the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy. They began to contradict what Paul was saying^(A) and heaped abuse^(B) on him.

²⁸ “The older brother became angry^(A) and refused to go in. So his father went out and pleaded with him. ²⁹ But he answered his father, ‘Look! All these years I’ve been slaving for you and never disobeyed your orders. Yet you never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends. ³⁰ But when this son of yours who has squandered your property^(B) with prostitutes^(C) comes home, you kill the fattened calf for him!’

¹⁵ Don’t I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous?’^(A)

¹⁵ Then Moses became very angry^(A) and said to the Lord, “Do not accept their offering. I have not taken so much as a donkey^(B) from them, nor have I wronged any of them.”
