¹¹ Then Judah said to Tamar his daughter-in-law, ^(A)“Remain a widow in your father's house, till Shelah my son grows up”—for he feared that he would die, like his brothers. So Tamar went and remained ^(B)in her father's house.

¹³ But if a priest's daughter is widowed or divorced and has no child and ^(A)returns to her father's house, ^(B)as in her youth, she may eat of her father's food; yet no lay person shall eat of it.

¹¹ But Naomi said, “Turn back, my daughters; why will you go with me? Have I yet sons in my womb ^(A)that they may become your husbands? ¹² Turn back, my daughters; go your way, for I am too old to have a husband. If I should say I have hope, even if I should have a husband this night and should bear sons, ¹³ would you therefore wait till they were grown? Would you therefore refrain from marrying? No, my daughters, for it is exceedingly bitter to me for your sake that ^(B)the hand of the Lord has gone out against me.”
