⁹ He had another dream and told it to his brothers, saying, “Look, I have had another dream: the sun, the moon, and eleven stars were bowing down to me.”

⁹ “The patriarchs, jealous of Joseph, sold him into Egypt; but God was with him^{(A) 10} and rescued him from all his afflictions and enabled him to win favor and to show wisdom when he stood before Pharaoh, king of Egypt, who appointed him ruler over Egypt and over all his household.^{(B) 11} Now there came a famine throughout Egypt and Canaan and great suffering, and our ancestors could find no food.^{(C) 12} But when Jacob heard that there was grain in Egypt, he sent our ancestors there on their first visit.^{(D) 13} On the second visit Joseph made himself known to his brothers, and Joseph’s family became known to Pharaoh.^{(E) 14} Then Joseph sent and invited his father Jacob and all his relatives to come to him, seventy-five in all;^(F)

¹⁵ so that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, in which you shine like stars in the world,^(A)

¹⁰ It grew as high as the host of heaven. It threw down to earth some of the host and some of the stars and trampled on them.^(A)

Joseph Forgives His Brothers

¹⁵ Realizing that their father was dead, Joseph’s brothers said, “What if Joseph still bears a grudge against us and pays us back in full for all the wrong that we did to him?”^{(A) 16} So they approached^[a] Joseph, saying, “Your father gave this instruction before he died, ¹⁷ ‘Say to Joseph: I beg you, forgive the crime of your brothers and the wrong they did in harming you.’ Now therefore please forgive the crime of the servants of the God of your father.” Joseph wept when they spoke to him. ¹⁸ Then his brothers also wept,^[b] fell down before him, and said, “We are here as your slaves.”^{(B) 19} But Joseph said to them, “Do not be afraid! Am I in the place of God?^{(C) 20} Even though you intended to do harm to me, God intended it for good, in order to preserve a numerous people, as he is doing today.^{(D) 21} So have no fear; I myself will provide for you and your little ones.” In this way he reassured them, speaking kindly to them.^(E)

¹² And Joseph provided his father, his brothers, and all his father’s household with food, according to the number of their dependents.

²⁹ Joseph made ready his chariot and went up to meet his father Israel in Goshen. He presented himself to him, fell on his neck, and wept on his neck a good while.^(A)

⁹ Hurry and go up to my father and say to him, ‘Thus says your son Joseph, God has made me lord of all Egypt; come down to me; do not delay.

¹⁹ My lord asked his servants, saying, ‘Have you a father or a brother?’

¹⁴ Judah and his brothers came to Joseph’s house while he was still there, and they fell to the ground before him.^(A)
