¹⁴ Then he said to him, “Please go and see if it is well with your brothers and well with the flocks, and bring back word to me.” So he sent him out of the Valley of ^(A)Hebron, and he went to Shechem.

Death of Isaac

²⁷ Then Jacob came to his father Isaac at ^(A)Mamre, or ^(B)Kirjath Arba^[a] (that is, Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac had dwelt.

⁴² saying, “If you had known, even you, especially in this ^(A)your day, the things that ^(B)make for your ^(C)peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes.

¹⁵ And ^(A)the name of Hebron formerly was Kirjath Arba (Arba was the greatest man among the Anakim).

^(B)Then the land had rest from war.

² So Sarah died in ^(A)Kirjath Arba (that is, ^(B)Hebron) in the land of Canaan, and Abraham came to mourn for Sarah and to weep for her.

^18 (A)Then Abram moved his tent, and went and ^(B)dwelt by ^[a]the terebinth trees of Mamre, ^(C)which are in Hebron, and built an ^(D)altar there to the Lord.

³³ Their blood shall therefore return upon the head of Joab and ^(A)upon the head of his descendants forever. ^(B)But upon David and his descendants, upon his house and his throne, there shall be peace forever from the Lord.”
