¹³ But Jacob said to him, “My lord^(A) knows that the children are tender and that I must care for the ewes and cows that are nursing their young.^(B) If they are driven hard just one day, all the animals will die.

¹⁵ I myself will tend my sheep and have them lie down,^(A) declares the Sovereign Lord.^{(B) 16} I will search for the lost and bring back the strays. I will bind up^(C) the injured and strengthen the weak,^(D) but the sleek and the strong I will destroy.^(E) I will shepherd the flock with justice.^(F)

Jesus Reinstates Peter

¹⁵ When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?”

“Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.”^(A)

Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.”^(B)

¹⁶ Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”

He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”

Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.”^(C)

¹⁷ The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”

Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?”^(D) He said, “Lord, you know all things;^(E) you know that I love you.”

Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.^(F)

²³ I will place over them one shepherd, my servant David, and he will tend^(A) them; he will tend them and be their shepherd.^{(B) 24} I the Lord will be their God,^(C) and my servant David^(D) will be prince among them.^(E) I the Lord have spoken.^(F)

²⁵ “‘I will make a covenant^(G) of peace^(H) with them and rid the land of savage beasts^(I) so that they may live in the wilderness and sleep in the forests in safety.^(J)

⁵ David said, “My son Solomon is young^(A) and inexperienced, and the house to be built for the Lord should be of great magnificence and fame and splendor^(B) in the sight of all the nations. Therefore I will make preparations for it.” So David made extensive preparations before his death.
