⁸ Also Esau saw ^(A)that the daughters of Canaan did not please his father Isaac.

³ and I will make you ^(A)swear^[a] by the Lord, the God of heaven and the God of the earth, that ^(B)you will not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell;

^34 (A)When Esau was forty years old, he took as wives Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Basemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite. ³⁵ And ^(B)they were a grief of mind to Isaac and Rebekah.

⁶ But the thing ^(A)displeased Samuel when they said, “Give us a king to judge us.” So Samuel ^(B)prayed to the Lord.

28 Then Isaac called Jacob and ^(A)blessed him, and ^[a]charged him, and said to him: ^(B)“You shall not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan.
