²⁰ Then Jacob made a vow,^(A) saying, “If God will be with me and will watch over me^(B) on this journey I am taking and will give me food to eat and clothes to wear^(C)

⁸ But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.^(A)

⁸ While your servant was living at Geshur^(A) in Aram, I made this vow:^(B) ‘If the Lord takes me back to Jerusalem, I will worship the Lord in Hebron.^[a]’”

¹³ I am the God of Bethel,^(A) where you anointed a pillar^(B) and where you made a vow^(C) to me. Now leave this land at once and go back to your native land.^(D)’”

¹⁶ Out of his fullness^(A) we have all received grace^(B) in place of grace already given.

The Plot to Kill Paul

¹² The next morning some Jews formed a conspiracy^(A) and bound themselves with an oath not to eat or drink until they had killed Paul.^{(B) 13} More than forty men were involved in this plot. ¹⁴ They went to the chief priests and the elders and said, “We have taken a solemn oath not to eat anything until we have killed Paul.^{(C) 15} Now then, you and the Sanhedrin^(D) petition the commander to bring him before you on the pretext of wanting more accurate information about his case. We are ready to kill him before he gets here.”

Priscilla, Aquila and Apollos

¹⁸ Paul stayed on in Corinth for some time. Then he left the brothers and sisters^(A) and sailed for Syria,^(B) accompanied by Priscilla and Aquila.^(C) Before he sailed, he had his hair cut off at Cenchreae^(D) because of a vow he had taken.^(E)

²¹ So the Lord will make himself known to the Egyptians, and in that day they will acknowledge^(A) the Lord. They will worship^(B) with sacrifices and grain offerings; they will make vows to the Lord and keep them.^(C)
