⁷ “The Lord, the God of heaven,^(A) who brought me out of my father’s household and my native land^(B) and who spoke to me and promised me on oath, saying, ‘To your offspring^[a](C) I will give this land’^(D)—he will send his angel before you^(E) so that you can get a wife for my son from there.

¹⁴ Are not all angels ministering spirits^(A) sent to serve those who will inherit^(B) salvation?^(C)

² I will send an angel^(A) before you and drive out the Canaanites, Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites.^(B)

¹⁵ All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring^[a] forever.^(A)

¹³ Remember^(A) your servants Abraham, Isaac and Israel, to whom you swore by your own self:^(B) ‘I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars^(C) in the sky and I will give your descendants all this land^(D) I promised them, and it will be their inheritance forever.’”

God’s Angel to Prepare the Way

²⁰ “See, I am sending an angel^(A) ahead of you to guard you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared.^{(B) 21} Pay attention to him and listen^(C) to what he says. Do not rebel against him; he will not forgive^(D) your rebellion,^(E) since my Name^(F) is in him. ²² If you listen carefully to what he says and do^(G) all that I say, I will be an enemy^(H) to your enemies and will oppose those who oppose you. ²³ My angel will go ahead of you and bring you into the land of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hivites and Jebusites,^(I) and I will wipe them out.
