³² So the man went to the house, and the camels were unloaded. Straw and fodder^(A) were brought for the camels, and water for him and his men to wash their feet.^(B)

²¹ So he took him into his house and fed his donkeys. After they had washed their feet, they had something to eat and drink.^(A)

²⁴ The steward took the men into Joseph’s house,^(A) gave them water to wash their feet^(B) and provided fodder for their donkeys.

⁴ Let a little water be brought, and then you may all wash your feet^(A) and rest under this tree.

¹⁰ and is well known for her good deeds,^(A) such as bringing up children, showing hospitality,^(B) washing the feet^(C) of the Lord’s people, helping those in trouble^(D) and devoting herself to all kinds of good deeds.

⁴⁴ Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet,^(A) but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair.

² “My lords,” he said, “please turn aside to your servant’s house. You can wash your feet^(A) and spend the night and then go on your way early in the morning.”

“No,” they answered, “we will spend the night in the square.”^(B)

⁴ so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist.^{(A) 5} After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet,^(B) drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.

⁶ He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?”

⁷ Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.”^(C)

⁸ “No,” said Peter, “you shall never wash my feet.”

Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.”

⁹ “Then, Lord,” Simon Peter replied, “not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!”

¹⁰ Jesus answered, “Those who have had a bath need only to wash their feet; their whole body is clean. And you are clean,^(D) though not every one of you.”^{(E) 11} For he knew who was going to betray him,^(F) and that was why he said not every one was clean.

¹² When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. ¹³ “You call me ‘Teacher’^(G) and ‘Lord,’^(H) and rightly so, for that is what I am. ¹⁴ Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.^(I)

⁴¹ She bowed down with her face to the ground and said, “I am your servant and am ready to serve you and wash the feet of my lord’s servants.”
