The Three Visitors

18 The Lord appeared to Abraham^(A) near the great trees of Mamre^(B) while he was sitting at the entrance to his tent^(C) in the heat of the day.

¹³ A man who had escaped came and reported this to Abram the Hebrew.^(A) Now Abram was living near the great trees of Mamre^(B) the Amorite, a brother^[a] of Eshkol^(C) and Aner, all of whom were allied with Abram.

¹⁸ So Abram went to live near the great trees of Mamre^(A) at Hebron,^(B) where he pitched his tents. There he built an altar to the Lord.^(C)

³ Jacob said to Joseph, “God Almighty^[a](A) appeared to me at Luz^(B) in the land of Canaan, and there he blessed me^(C)

² The Lord appeared^(A) to Isaac and said, “Do not go down to Egypt;^(B) live in the land where I tell you to live.^(C)

² To this he replied: “Brothers and fathers,^(A) listen to me! The God of glory^(B) appeared to our father Abraham while he was still in Mesopotamia, before he lived in Harran.^(C)

⁷ That night God appeared^(A) to Solomon and said to him, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you.”

²² When he had finished speaking with Abraham, God went up from him.^(A)

The Covenant of Circumcision

17 When Abram was ninety-nine years old,^(A) the Lord appeared to him^(B) and said, “I am God Almighty^[a];^(C) walk before me faithfully and be blameless.^{(D) 2} Then I will make my covenant between me and you^(E) and will greatly increase your numbers.”^(F)

³ Abram fell facedown,^(G) and God said to him,
