²² And when he had finished talking with him, God went up from Abraham.

³³ And the Lord went his way, when he had finished speaking to Abraham, and Abraham returned to his place.

³⁰ The Father and I are one.”

¹⁸ No one has ever seen God. It is the only Son, himself God, who^[a] is close to the Father’s heart,^[b] who has made him known.^(A)

²⁰ When the flame went up toward heaven from the altar, the angel of the Lord ascended in the flame of the altar while Manoah and his wife looked on, and they fell on their faces to the ground.^(A)

²¹ Then the angel of the Lord reached out the tip of the staff that was in his hand and touched the meat and the unleavened cakes, and fire sprang up from the rock and consumed the meat and the unleavened cakes, and the angel of the Lord vanished from his sight.^(A)

⁴ The Lord spoke with you face to face at the mountain, out of the fire.^(A)

⁶ And he said, “Hear my words:

“Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?”^(C)

The Law concerning the Altar

²² The Lord said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the Israelites: You have seen for yourselves how I spoke with you from heaven.^(A)

⁹ God appeared to Jacob again when he came from Paddan-aram, and he blessed him.^{(A) 10} God said to him, “Your name is Jacob; no longer shall you be called Jacob, but Israel shall be your name.” So he was called Israel.^{(B) 11} God said to him, “I am God Almighty:^[a] be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall come from you, and kings shall spring from you.^{(C) 12} The land that I gave to Abraham and Isaac I will give to you, and I will give the land to your offspring after you.”^{(D) 13} Then God went up from him at the place where he had spoken with him.^{(E) 14} Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he had spoken with him, a pillar of stone, and he poured out a drink offering on it and poured oil on it.^{(F) 15} So Jacob called the place where God had spoken with him Bethel.^(G)
