Genesis 2:2-7

New International Version

²By the seventh day^(A) God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.^(B) ³Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy,^(C) because on it he rested^(D) from all the work of creating^(E) that he had done.

Adam and Eve

⁴This is the account^(F) of the heavens and the earth when they were created,^(G) when the Lord God made the earth and the heavens.

⁵Now no shrub had yet appeared on the earth^[a] and no plant had yet sprung up,^(H) for the Lord God had not sent rain on the earth^(I) and there was no one to work the ground, ⁶but streams^[b] came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground. ⁷Then the Lord God formed^(J) a man^[c]^(K) from the dust^(L) of the ground^(M) and breathed into his nostrils the breath^(N) of life,^(O) and the man became a living being.^(P)
