Ahora somos hijos de Dios

1-2 Lo que quiero decir es esto: Mientras el hijo es menor de edad, es igual a cualquier esclavo de la familia y depende de las personas que lo cuidan y le enseñan, hasta el día en que su padre le entrega sus propiedades y lo hace dueño de todo. Algo así pasaba con nosotros cuando todavía no conocíamos a Cristo: los espíritus que controlan el universo nos trataban como si fuéramos sus esclavos. Pero, cuando llegó el día señalado por Dios, él envió a su Hijo, que nació de una mujer y se sometió a la ley de los judíos. Dios lo envió para liberar a todos los que teníamos que obedecer la ley, y luego nos adoptó como hijos suyos. Ahora, como ustedes son sus hijos, Dios ha enviado el Espíritu de su Hijo a vivir en ustedes. Por eso, cuando oramos a Dios, el Espíritu nos permite llamarlo: «Papá, querido Papá». Ustedes ya no son como los esclavos de cualquier familia, sino que son hijos de Dios. Y como son sus hijos, gracias a él tienen derecho a recibir su herencia.

Antes, cuando ustedes todavía no conocían a Dios, vivían como esclavos de los dioses falsos. Pero ahora conocen a Dios. Mejor dicho, Dios los conoce a ustedes. Por eso, no puedo entender por qué se dejan dominar de nuevo por esos espíritus que controlan el universo. ¡Si ellos no tienen poder, ni valen nada! 10 Ustedes todavía les dan importancia a ciertos días, meses, épocas y años. 11 ¡Me asusta el pensar que de nada haya servido todo lo que he hecho por ustedes!

12 Hermanos míos, yo les ruego que se amolden a mí, como yo me he amoldado a ustedes. Ustedes no me causaron ningún daño, 13 sino que me enfermé y, por eso, tuve que pasar un tiempo en Galacia anunciándoles las buenas noticias. 14 Aunque mi enfermedad les causó muchos problemas, ustedes no me despreciaron ni me rechazaron. Al contrario, me recibieron en sus hogares como si yo fuera un ángel de Dios, ¡o Jesucristo mismo! 15 Yo sé muy bien que, de haberles sido posible, hasta se habrían sacado los ojos para dármelos. ¿Qué pasó con toda esa alegría? 16 ¡Ahora resulta que, por decirles la verdad, me he hecho enemigo de ustedes!

17 Los que quieren obligarlos a obedecer la ley judía se muestran ahora muy interesados en ustedes. Pero lo que en verdad quieren es hacerles daño, pues desean que se olviden de mí y que se interesen por ellos. 18 Está bien interesarse por otras personas, si lo que se desea es hacerles el bien. Pero si ustedes realmente se interesan por mí, háganlo siempre y no sólo cuando estoy con ustedes. 19 Yo los quiero como a hijos, pero mientras no lleguen a ser como Cristo, me harán sufrir mucho, como sufre una madre con los dolores de parto. 20 ¡Cómo quisiera estar con ustedes en este momento, para hablarles de otra manera! ¡Estoy muy confundido, y no sé cómo tratarlos!

El ejemplo de Agar y Sara

21 Ustedes, los que quieren obedecer la ley, díganme una cosa: ¿no han leído lo que la Biblia nos dice de Abraham? 22 Dice que él tuvo dos hijos, uno de ellos con su esclava, y el otro con su esposa, que era libre. 23 El hijo de la esclava nació como nacemos todos nosotros, pero el hijo de su esposa nació gracias a que Dios se lo prometió a Abraham. 24-25 Estos dos casos pueden servirnos de ejemplo. Las dos mujeres representan dos pactos. Agar representa el pacto del monte Sinaí, que está en Arabia, pues todos sus descendientes nacen siendo esclavos. Ese monte representa a la ciudad de Jerusalén y a todos los que viven como esclavos de la ley. 26 Pero Sara representa al nuevo pacto, por el cual pertenecemos a la Jerusalén del cielo, la ciudad de todos los que somos libres. 27 Refiriéndose a Sara, la Biblia dice:

«¡Alégrate, mujer,
tú que no puedes tener hijos!

»¡Grita de alegría, mujer,
tú que no los has tenido!

»Y tú, mujer abandonada,
¡ahora tendrás más hijos
que la mujer casada!»

28 Hermanos míos, ustedes son como Isaac, el hijo que Dios le prometió a Abraham. Y digo que son como él, porque son los hijos que Dios le había prometido. 29 En aquel tiempo, el hijo que Abraham tuvo con Agar perseguía a Isaac, que nació gracias al poder del Espíritu. Y ahora pasa lo mismo: los que desean seguir bajo el control de la ley nos persiguen a nosotros, que somos los hijos de la promesa. 30 Pero la Biblia nos cuenta que Dios le dijo a Abraham: «Echa de aquí a esa esclava y a su hijo; él no tiene derecho a compartir la herencia con tu hijo Isaac, que nació de una mujer libre.»

31 Hermanos, nosotros no somos esclavos de la ley, sino que somos libres. No somos como el hijo de la esclava, sino como el de la mujer libre.

Now I say this: for however much time as the yoresh (heir) has not attained his majority (the state or time of being of full legal age, or his religious majority, his Bar Mitzvah), he differs nothing from an eved, though being Ba’al Bayit of all the nachalah (inheritance).

And he is under shomrim (guardians) and omnot (governesses) until the time previously appointed by the Ba’al Bayit.

So also we, when we were immature, had been enslaved under the yesodot (rudiments) of the Olam Hazeh.

But when the fullness of time had come, Hashem sent forth his Ben HaElohim [Moshiach, 2Sm 7:14; Ps 2:7; 89:27], born of an isha (Gn 3:15; Isa 7:14; Mic 5:2), born under the Torah,

That Moshiach might bring the Geulah (Redemption) to the ones under the Torah, that we might receive the Ma’amad HaBanim (the standing as sons), the bechirah adoption.

And because you are banim, Hashem sent forth the Ruach of His Ben HaElohim into your levavot, crying "Abba, Avinu!"

So you are no longer an eved but a ben; and if a ben, also a yoresh through Hashem.

But, formerly, when you did not have da’as (knowledge) of Hashem, you were avadim serving that which is by nature not HaEl Ha’Amiti (the true G-d).

But, now, having known Hashem, or rather having been known by Hashem, how is it that you are returning to the weak and beggarly yesodot (rudiments) of the Olam Hazeh to which again you want to renew your service as avadim?

10 You [Galatian Goyim] observe yamim (days) and chodashim (months, new moons) and mo’adim (fixed times, festivals) and shanim.

11 I fear for you, lest somehow efsher (perhaps) I have labored for you lashav (in vain).

12 Become as I am, because I also became as you are, Achim B’Moshiach. I implore you. You did me no wrong.

13 And you know that it was due to chulshat habasar (weakness of the flesh, sickness) that I first preached the Besuras HaGeulah to you,

14 and your nisayon (trial) in my basar you did not despise nor did you loathe, but as a malach Hashem you received me, as Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach Yehoshua himself.

15 Where then is your birkat Shomayim? For I testify to you that if possible, having torn out your eynayeem (eyes), you would have made a mattanah (gift) of them to me.

16 So, then, have I become your oyev (enemy) by telling you HaEmes?

17 They (the mohalim haGoyim) are zealously courting you, but not in a good way; rather, they desire to cut you off and shut you out, in order that you may be zealous for them.

18 Now it is tov ma’od to be zealous in a good thing all the time, and not only during my presence with you.

19 My yeladim, for whom again I suffer chevlei leydah (birth pains) until Moshiach is formed in you,

20 Would that I were present with you just now and could change my tone, because I am baffled by you.

21 Tell me, you Goyim who wish to be under the Torah, do you not possess "shema" hearing of the Torah?

22 For the Torah says that Avraham Avinu had shnei banim (two sons), one of shifchah (the slave woman) and one of the gevirah.

23 But the one of the slave woman has been born according to the basar, and the one of the free woman has been born through the havtachah (promise).

24 Now these things can be taken derech mashal (figuratively); for these are two beritot (covenants, see 3:17), one from Mount Sinai bearing banim for avdut (slavery, bondage): this is Hagar.

25 Now, Hagar is the Mount Sinai in Arabia; and corresponds to the Yerushalayim of the present, for she is in avdut with her banim.

26 But the Yerushalayim above is a Bat Chorin (daughter of freedom), the Imma lechulanu (the Mother of us all TEHILLIM 87:5-6; SHEMOT 25:40; YESHAYEH 49:20f; 54:1-13).

27 For it has been written, RANNI AKARAH LO YALADAH PITZCHI RINNAH V’TZAHALI LO CHALAH KI RABBIM BENEI SHOMEMAH MIB’NEI VE’ULAH ("Sing, rejoice, O barren, the one not giving birth, break forth into song and shout for joy, the one not suffering birth pains; because more are the children of the desolate woman than the one having the husband" YESHAYEH 54:1).

28 But you, Achim b’Moshiach, are Bnei HaHavtacha (Sons of the Promise), like Yitzchak. [BERESHIS 18:10]

29 But just as at that time the one born according to the basar was bringing redifah (persecution) on the one born according to the Ruach HaKodesh, so it is now also.

30 But what does the Kitvei HaKodesh say? "Cast out the slave woman and her son, for never will the son of the slave woman inherit with my son, the son of the free woman" BERESHIS 21:10)

31 Therefore, Achim B’Moshiach, we are not Bnei “HAAMAH” (Sons of the Slave Woman) but Bnei HaKhofshi’yah (Sons of Lady Freedom, the Freedwoman).

Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all;

But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father.

Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world:

But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,

To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.

Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

Howbeit then, when ye knew not God, ye did service unto them which by nature are no gods.

But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?

10 Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years.

11 I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain.

12 Brethren, I beseech you, be as I am; for I am as ye are: ye have not injured me at all.

13 Ye know how through infirmity of the flesh I preached the gospel unto you at the first.

14 And my temptation which was in my flesh ye despised not, nor rejected; but received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus.

15 Where is then the blessedness ye spake of? for I bear you record, that, if it had been possible, ye would have plucked out your own eyes, and have given them to me.

16 Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?

17 They zealously affect you, but not well; yea, they would exclude you, that ye might affect them.

18 But it is good to be zealously affected always in a good thing, and not only when I am present with you.

19 My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you,

20 I desire to be present with you now, and to change my voice; for I stand in doubt of you.

21 Tell me, ye that desire to be under the law, do ye not hear the law?

22 For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman.

23 But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise.

24 Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar.

25 For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children.

26 But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.

27 For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband.

28 Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.

29 But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now.

30 Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.

31 So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free.
