⁸ and that if anyone did not come within three days, by order of the officials and the elders all his property should be forfeited, and he himself banned from the congregation of the exiles.

²⁶ Whoever will not obey the law of your God and the law of the king, let judgment be strictly executed on him, whether for death or for banishment or for confiscation of his goods or for imprisonment.”

¹³ God judges^[a] those outside. ^(A)“Purge the evil person from among you.”

^2 (A)They will put you out of the synagogues. Indeed, ^(B)the hour is coming when ^(C)whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God.

³⁴ They answered him, ^(A)“You were born in utter sin, and would you teach us?” And they ^(B)cast him out.

²² (His parents said these things ^(A)because they feared the Jews, for ^(B)the Jews had already agreed that if anyone should ^(C)confess Jesus^[a] to be Christ, ^(D)he was to be put out of the synagogue.)

¹⁷ If he refuses to listen to them, ^(A)tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, ^(B)let him be to you as ^(C)a Gentile and ^(D)a tax collector.

³ As soon as the people heard the law, ^(A)they separated from Israel all ^(B)those of foreign descent.

⁷ He took a yoke of oxen ^(A)and cut them in pieces and sent them throughout all the territory of Israel by the hand of the messengers, saying, ^(B)“Whoever does not come out after Saul and Samuel, so shall it be done to his oxen!” Then the dread of the Lord fell upon the people, and they came out ^(C)as one man.

⁵ And the people of Israel said, “Which of all the tribes of Israel did not come up in the assembly to the Lord?” ^(A)For they had taken a great oath concerning him who did not come up to the Lord to Mizpah, saying, “He shall surely be put to death.”
