¹⁹ You have profaned^(A) me among my people for a few handfuls of barley and scraps of bread.^(B) By lying to my people, who listen to lies, you have killed those who should not have died and have spared those who should not live.^(C)

¹² When you sin against them^(A) in this way and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ.^(B)

¹² cargoes of gold, silver, precious stones and pearls; fine linen, purple, silk and scarlet cloth; every sort of citron wood, and articles of every kind made of ivory, costly wood, bronze, iron and marble;^{(A) 13} cargoes of cinnamon and spice, of incense, myrrh and frankincense, of wine and olive oil, of fine flour and wheat; cattle and sheep; horses and carriages; and human beings sold as slaves.^(B)

¹⁵ “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You travel over land and sea to win a single convert,^(A) and when you have succeeded, you make them twice as much a child of hell^(B) as you are.
