¹⁹ Therefore thus says the Lord God: ‘Surely I will give the land of Egypt to ^(A)Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; he shall take away her wealth, carry off her spoil, and remove her pillage; and that will be the wages for his army.

⁸ ‘Therefore thus says the Lord God: “Surely I will bring ^(A)a sword upon you and cut off from you man and beast.

The World Mourns Babylon’s Fall

^9 (A)“The kings of the earth who committed fornication and lived luxuriously with her ^(B)will weep and lament for her, ^(C)when they see the smoke of her burning, ¹⁰ standing at a distance for fear of her torment, saying, ^(D)‘Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! ^(E)For in one hour your judgment has come.’

¹⁰ ‘Thus says the Lord God:

^12 (A)I will make the land of Egypt desolate in the midst of the countries that are desolate; and among the cities that are laid waste, her cities shall be desolate forty years; and I will ^(B)scatter the Egyptians among the nations and disperse them throughout the countries.”

¹⁶ In that day Egypt will ^(A)be like women, and will be afraid and fear because of the waving of the hand of the Lord of hosts, ^(B)which He waves over it. ¹⁷ And the land of Judah will be a terror to Egypt; everyone who makes mention of it will be afraid in himself, because of the counsel of the Lord of hosts which He has ^(C)determined against it.
