⁵¹ Samaria has not committed half your sins; you have committed more abominations than they and have made your sisters appear righteous by all the abominations that you have committed.^(A)

⁸ She^[a] saw that for all the adulteries of that faithless one, Israel, I had sent her away with a decree of divorce, yet her false sister Judah did not fear, but she also went and prostituted herself.^{(A) 9} Because she took her prostitution so lightly, she polluted the land, committing adultery with stone and tree.^{(B) 10} Yet for all this her false sister Judah did not return to me with her whole heart but only in pretense, says the Lord.^(C)

¹¹ Then the Lord said to me: Faithless Israel has shown herself less guilty than false Judah.^(D)

None Is Righteous

⁹ What then? Are we any better off?^[a] No, not at all, for we have already charged that all, both Jews and Greeks, are under the power of sin,^{(A) 10} as it is written:

¹⁹ Now we know that, whatever the law says, it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world may be held accountable to God.^{(E) 20} For no human will be justified before him by deeds prescribed by the law, for through the law comes the knowledge of sin.^(F)

⁴⁷ That slave who knew what his master wanted but did not prepare himself or do what was wanted will receive a severe beating.^{(A) 48} But the one who did not know and did what deserved a beating will receive a light beating. From everyone to whom much has been given, much will be required, and from the one to whom much has been entrusted, even more will be demanded.^(B)

⁴¹ The people of Nineveh will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at the proclamation of Jonah, and indeed something greater than Jonah is here!^{(A) 42} The queen of the South will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because she came from the ends of the earth to listen to the wisdom of Solomon, and indeed something greater than Solomon is here!^(B)
