^5 (A)You shall not worship them nor serve them; for I, the Lord your God, am a ^(B)jealous God, ^(C)inflicting the ^[a]punishment of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me, ⁶ but showing ^[b]favor to ^(D)thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.

⁷ “^(A)The Lord did not ^[a]make you His beloved nor choose you because you were greater in number than any of the peoples, since you were the fewest of all peoples, ⁸ but because the Lord loved you and kept the ^(B)oath which He swore to your forefathers, ^(C)the Lord brought you out by a mighty hand and redeemed you from the house of ^[b]slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

¹⁸ He executes justice for ^(A)the orphan and the widow, and shows His love for the stranger by giving him food and clothing.

¹⁶ “For God so ^(A)loved the world, that He ^(B)gave His ^(C)only Son, so that everyone who ^(D)believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life.

⁸ But God ^(A)demonstrates ^(B)His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, ^(C)Christ died for us.

God Is Love

^7 (A)Beloved, let’s ^(B)love one another; for love is from God, and ^(C)everyone who loves has been ^(D)born of God and ^(E)knows God. ⁸ The one who does not love does not know God, because ^(F)God is love.

^16 (A)We have come to know and have believed the love which God has ^[a](B)for us. ^(C)God is love, and the one who ^(D)remains in love remains in God, and God remains in him.
