⁹ If you return^(A) to the Lord, then your fellow Israelites and your children will be shown compassion^(B) by their captors and will return to this land, for the Lord your God is gracious and compassionate.^(C) He will not turn his face from you if you return to him.”

¹⁷ They refused to listen and failed to remember^(A) the miracles^(B) you performed among them. They became stiff-necked^(C) and in their rebellion appointed a leader in order to return to their slavery.^(D) But you are a forgiving God,^(E) gracious and compassionate,^(F) slow to anger^(G) and abounding in love.^(H) Therefore you did not desert them,^(I)

³¹ But in your great mercy you did not put an end^(A) to them or abandon them, for you are a gracious and merciful^(B) God.
