¹⁶ The Israelites are to observe the Sabbath,^(A) celebrating it for the generations to come as a lasting covenant.

¹⁷ It will be a sign^(A) between me and the Israelites forever, for in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day he rested and was refreshed.^(B)’”^(C)

³² I myself will lay waste the land,^(A) so that your enemies who live there will be appalled.^(B)

⁴⁰ “‘But if they will confess^(A) their sins^(B) and the sins of their ancestors^(C)—their unfaithfulness and their hostility toward me, ⁴¹ which made me hostile^(D) toward them so that I sent them into the land of their enemies—then when their uncircumcised hearts^(E) are humbled^(F) and they pay^(G) for their sin, ⁴² I will remember my covenant with Jacob^(H) and my covenant with Isaac^(I) and my covenant with Abraham,^(J) and I will remember the land. ⁴³ For the land will be deserted^(K) by them and will enjoy its sabbaths while it lies desolate without them. They will pay for their sins because they rejected^(L) my laws and abhorred my decrees.^{(M) 44} Yet in spite of this, when they are in the land of their enemies,^(N) I will not reject them or abhor^(O) them so as to destroy them completely,^(P) breaking my covenant^(Q) with them. I am the Lord their God. ⁴⁵ But for their sake I will remember^(R) the covenant with their ancestors whom I brought out of Egypt^(S) in the sight of the nations to be their God. I am the Lord.’”

⁴⁶ These are the decrees, the laws and the regulations that the Lord established at Mount Sinai^(T) between himself and the Israelites through Moses.^(U)

Prosperity After Turning to the Lord

30 When all these blessings and curses^(A) I have set before you come on you and you take them to heart wherever the Lord your God disperses you among the nations,^{(B) 2} and when you and your children return^(C) to the Lord your God and obey him with all your heart^(D) and with all your soul according to everything I command you today, ³ then the Lord your God will restore your fortunes^[a](E) and have compassion^(F) on you and gather^(G) you again from all the nations where he scattered^(H) you.^(I)

He will make you more prosperous and numerous^(L) than your ancestors. ⁶ The Lord your God will circumcise your hearts and the hearts of your descendants,^(M) so that you may love^(N) him with all your heart and with all your soul, and live. ⁷ The Lord your God will put all these curses^(O) on your enemies who hate and persecute you.^{(P) 8} You will again obey the Lord and follow all his commands I am giving you today. ⁹ Then the Lord your God will make you most prosperous in all the work of your hands and in the fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock and the crops of your land.^(Q) The Lord will again delight^(R) in you and make you prosperous, just as he delighted in your ancestors,

²¹ And when many disasters and calamities come on them,^(A) this song will testify against them, because it will not be forgotten by their descendants. I know what they are disposed to do,^(B) even before I bring them into the land I promised them on oath.”
