Exodus 13:14-15 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

14 And it shall be when your son asks you in time to come, saying, ‘What is this?’ then you shall say to him, ‘With a [a]powerful hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt, from the house of [b]slavery. 15 It came about, when Pharaoh was stubborn about letting us go, that the Lord killed every firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the firstborn of man and the firstborn of beast. Therefore, I sacrifice to the Lord the males, the first [c]offspring of every womb, but every firstborn of my sons I redeem.’

Exodus 13:14-15 New International Version (NIV)

14 “In days to come, when your son asks you, ‘What does this mean?’ say to him, ‘With a mighty hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. 15 When Pharaoh stubbornly refused to let us go, the Lord killed the firstborn of both people and animals in Egypt. This is why I sacrifice to the Lord the first male offspring of every womb and redeem each of my firstborn sons.’
