¹⁵ For by now I could have stretched out my hand and struck you and your people^(A) with a plague that would have wiped you off the earth.

²⁰ So I will stretch out my hand^(A) and strike the Egyptians with all the wonders^(B) that I will perform among them. After that, he will let you go.^(C)

³⁴ This was the sin^(A) of the house of Jeroboam that led to its downfall and to its destruction^(B) from the face of the earth.

²⁸ The water flowed back and covered the chariots and horsemen—the entire army of Pharaoh that had followed the Israelites into the sea.^(A) Not one of them survived.^(B)

²⁹ At midnight^(A) the Lord^(B) struck down all the firstborn^(C) in Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh, who sat on the throne, to the firstborn of the prisoner, who was in the dungeon, and the firstborn of all the livestock^(D) as well. ³⁰ Pharaoh and all his officials and all the Egyptians got up during the night, and there was loud wailing^(E) in Egypt, for there was not a house without someone dead.

⁴ So Moses said, “This is what the Lord says: ‘About midnight^(A) I will go throughout Egypt.^{(B) 5} Every firstborn^(C) son in Egypt will die, from the firstborn son of Pharaoh, who sits on the throne, to the firstborn son of the female slave, who is at her hand mill,^(D) and all the firstborn of the cattle as well. ⁶ There will be loud wailing^(E) throughout Egypt—worse than there has ever been or ever will be again.

¹⁶ But I have raised you up^[a] for this very purpose,^(A) that I might show you my power^(B) and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.

⁶ And the next day the Lord did it: All the livestock^(A) of the Egyptians died,^(B) but not one animal belonging to the Israelites died.
