²⁵ Eleazar, Aaron's son, took as his wife one of the daughters of Putiel, and ^(A)she bore him Phinehas. These are the heads of the fathers' houses of the Levites by their clans.

³³ And Eleazar the son of Aaron died, and they buried him at Gibeah, the town of ^(A)Phinehas his son, which had been given him in ^(B)the hill country of Ephraim.

^7 (A)When Phinehas ^(B)the son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose and left the congregation and took a spear in his hand ⁸ and went after the man of Israel into the chamber and pierced both of them, the man of Israel and the woman through her belly. Thus the plague on the people of Israel was stopped. ⁹ Nevertheless, ^(C)those who died by the plague were twenty-four thousand.

The Zeal of Phinehas

¹⁰ And the Lord said to Moses, ¹¹ “Phinehas the son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, has turned back my wrath from the people of Israel, in that he ^(D)was jealous with my jealousy among them, so that I did not consume the people of Israel in ^(E)my jealousy. ¹² Therefore say, ^(F)‘Behold, I give to him my covenant of peace, ¹³ and it shall be to him and to ^(G)his descendants after him the covenant of ^(H)a perpetual priesthood, because he was jealous for his God and made atonement for the people of Israel.’”

²⁸ and ^(A)Phinehas the son of Eleazar, son of Aaron, ^(B)ministered before it in those days), saying, “Shall we go out once more to battle against our brothers, the people of Benjamin, or shall we cease?” And the Lord said, “Go up, for tomorrow I will give them into your hand.”

³¹ And Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest said to the people of Reuben and the people of Gad and the people of Manasseh, “Today we know that ^(A)the Lord is in our midst, because you have not committed this breach of faith against the Lord. Now you have delivered the people of Israel from the hand of the Lord.”

³² Then Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, and the chiefs, returned from the people of Reuben and the people of Gad ^(B)in the land of Gilead to the land of Canaan, to the people of Israel, and brought back word to them.

¹³ Then the people of Israel sent to the people of Reuben and the people of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh, in the land of Gilead, ^(A)Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest,

⁶ And Moses sent them to the war, a thousand from each tribe, together with Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, with the vessels of the sanctuary and ^(A)the trumpets for the alarm in his hand.
