²⁵ And he ^(A)cried to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a log,^[a] and he ^(B)threw it into the water, and the water became sweet.

There the Lord^[b] made for them a statute and a rule, and there he ^(C)tested them,

² And you shall remember the whole way that the Lord your God has led you ^(A)these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, ^(B)testing you ^(C)to know what was in your heart, ^(D)whether you would keep his commandments or not.

⁴ They were for ^(A)the testing of Israel, to know whether Israel would obey the commandments of the Lord, which he commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.

²² in order ^(A)to test Israel by them, whether they will take care to walk in the way of the Lord as their fathers did, or not.”

3 ^(A)Now these are the nations that the Lord left, to test Israel by them, that is, all in Israel who had not experienced all the wars in Canaan.

¹⁶ who fed you in the wilderness with ^(A)manna that your fathers did not know, that he might humble you and test you, ^(B)to do you good in the end.

⁴ Then the Lord said to Moses, “Behold, I am about to rain ^(A)bread from heaven for you, and the people shall go out and gather a day's portion every day, that I may ^(B)test them, whether they will walk in my law or not.

²¹ Then he went to the spring of water and ^(A)threw salt in it and said, “Thus says the Lord, I have healed this water; from now on neither death nor miscarriage shall come from it.”

¹⁰ When Pharaoh drew near, the people of Israel lifted up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them, and they feared greatly. And the people of Israel ^(A)cried out to the Lord.
