The Plague on the Firstborn

11 Now the Lord had said to Moses, “I will bring one more plague on Pharaoh and on Egypt. After that, he will let you go^(A) from here, and when he does, he will drive you out completely.^(B)

¹⁴ But I will punish the nation they serve as slaves, and afterward they will come out^(A) with great possessions.^(B)

²¹ “‘If you remain hostile^(A) toward me and refuse to listen to me, I will multiply your afflictions seven times over,^(B) as your sins deserve.

¹⁴ or this time I will send the full force of my plagues against you and against your officials and your people, so you may know^(A) that there is no one like^(B) me in all the earth.

²⁰ So I will stretch out my hand^(A) and strike the Egyptians with all the wonders^(B) that I will perform among them. After that, he will let you go.^(C)

³⁴ Has any god ever tried to take for himself one nation out of another nation,^(A) by testings,^(B) by signs^(C) and wonders,^(D) by war, by a mighty hand and an outstretched arm,^(E) or by great and awesome deeds,^(F) like all the things the Lord your God did for you in Egypt before your very eyes?

The Exodus

³¹ During the night Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “Up! Leave my people, you and the Israelites! Go, worship^(A) the Lord as you have requested. ³² Take your flocks and herds,^(B) as you have said, and go. And also bless^(C) me.”

³³ The Egyptians urged the people to hurry^(D) and leave^(E) the country. “For otherwise,” they said, “we will all die!”^{(F) 34} So the people took their dough before the yeast was added, and carried it on their shoulders in kneading troughs^(G) wrapped in clothing. ³⁵ The Israelites did as Moses instructed and asked the Egyptians for articles of silver and gold^(H) and for clothing.^{(I) 36} The Lord had made the Egyptians favorably disposed^(J) toward the people, and they gave them what they asked for; so they plundered^(K) the Egyptians.

³⁷ The Israelites journeyed from Rameses^(L) to Sukkoth.^(M) There were about six hundred thousand men^(N) on foot, besides women and children. ³⁸ Many other people^(O) went up with them, and also large droves of livestock, both flocks and herds. ³⁹ With the dough the Israelites had brought from Egypt, they baked loaves of unleavened bread. The dough was without yeast because they had been driven out^(P) of Egypt and did not have time to prepare food for themselves.

⁹ They were seared by the intense heat and they cursed the name of God,^(A) who had control over these plagues, but they refused to repent^(B) and glorify him.^(C)
