14 that we henceforth be no longer children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine by the sleight of men and their cunning and craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

15 but speaking the truth in love, may grow up into Him in all things, who is the Head, even Christ,

16 from whom the whole body, fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

17 This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,

18 having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them because of the blindness of their heart,

19 who, being past feeling, have given themselves over unto lasciviousness to work all uncleanness with greediness.

20 But ye have not so learned Christ,

21 if so it be that ye have heard Him and have been taught by Him as the truth is in Jesus:

14 Then we will no longer be infants,(A) tossed back and forth by the waves,(B) and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming.(C) 15 Instead, speaking the truth in love,(D) we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head,(E) that is, Christ. 16 From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows(F) and builds itself up(G) in love,(H) as each part does its work.

Instructions for Christian Living

17 So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer(I) live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking.(J) 18 They are darkened in their understanding(K) and separated from the life of God(L) because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts.(M) 19 Having lost all sensitivity,(N) they have given themselves over(O) to sensuality(P) so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, and they are full of greed.

20 That, however, is not the way of life you learned 21 when you heard about Christ and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus.
