¹³ In him you also were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit^(A) when you heard the word of truth,^(B) the gospel of your salvation, and when you believed. ¹⁴ The Holy Spirit is the down payment^(C) of our inheritance, until the redemption of the possession, to the praise of his glory.

¹⁹ So, then, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with the saints, and members of God’s household, ²⁰ built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets,^(A) with Christ Jesus himself as the cornerstone. ²¹ In him the whole building, being put together,^(B) grows into a holy temple in the Lord.^{(C) 22} In him you are also being built together^(D) for God’s dwelling^(E) in the Spirit.

Consistency in the Christian Life

¹⁵ Pay careful attention, then, to how you walk—not as unwise people but as wise— ¹⁶ making the most of the time,^[a](A) because the days are evil. ¹⁷ So don’t be foolish, but understand^(B) what the Lord’s will^(C) is. ¹⁸ And don’t get drunk^(D) with wine,^(E) which leads to reckless living, but be filled by the Spirit:^(F)
