⁸ for ^(A)at one time you were ^(B)darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. ^(C)Walk as children of light ⁹ (for ^(D)the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), ¹⁰ and ^(E)try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. ^11 (F)Take no part in the ^(G)unfruitful ^(H)works of darkness, but instead ^(I)expose them.

⁹ But you are ^(A)a chosen race, ^(B)a royal ^(C)priesthood, ^(D)a holy nation, ^(E)a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you ^(F)out of darkness into ^(G)his marvelous light. ^10 (H)Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

Dead to Sin, Alive to God

6 What shall we say then? ^(A)Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? ² By no means! How can ^(B)we who died to sin still live in it?

¹² Let not ^(A)sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. ^13 (B)Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but ^(C)present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness.
