^31 (A)Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, ^[a]clamor, and ^(B)evil speaking be put away from you, ^(C)with all malice.

^8 (A)But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth.

² to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men. ³ For ^(A)we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another.

Qualities Needed in Trials

^19 [a]So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, ^(A)slow to speak, ^(B)slow to wrath;

^26 (A)“Be angry, and do not sin”: do not let the sun go down on your wrath,

¹⁴ But if you have ^(A)bitter envy and ^[a]self-seeking in your hearts, ^(B)do not boast and lie against the truth. ^15 (C)This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic. ¹⁶ For ^(D)where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there. ¹⁷ But ^(E)the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, ^(F)without partiality ^(G)and without hypocrisy. ^18 (H)Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

Pride Promotes Strife

4 Where do ^[b]wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure ^(I)that war in your members? ² You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and ^[c]war. ^[d]Yet you do not have because you do not ask.
