¹⁶ When I tried to understand^(A) all this,
    it troubled me deeply

²⁸ Do you not know?
    Have you not heard?^(A)
The Lord is the everlasting^(B) God,
    the Creator^(C) of the ends of the earth.^(D)
He will not grow tired or weary,^(E)
    and his understanding no one can fathom.^(F)

“I am determined to be wise”^(A)—
    but this was beyond me.
²⁴ Whatever exists is far off and most profound—
    who can discover it?^(B)

⁹ He performs wonders^(A) that cannot be fathomed,^(B)
    miracles that cannot be counted.^(C)

⁵ As you do not know the path of the wind,^(A)
    or how the body is formed^[a] in a mother’s womb,^(B)
so you cannot understand the work of God,
    the Maker of all things.

³ I have not learned wisdom,
    nor have I attained to the knowledge of the Holy One.^(A)
4 Who has gone up^(B) to heaven and come down?
    Whose hands^(C) have gathered up the wind?
Who has wrapped up the waters^(D) in a cloak?^(E)
    Who has established all the ends of the earth?
What is his name,^(F) and what is the name of his son?
    Surely you know!
