²⁸ But I tell you, everyone who looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.^(A)

¹⁵ He then told them, “Watch out and be on guard^(A) against all greed^(B) because one’s life is not in the abundance of his possessions.”^(C)

Sin’s Use of the Law

⁷ What should we say then?^(A) Is the law sin? Absolutely not!^(B) On the contrary, I would not have known sin if it were not for the law.^(C) For example, I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said, Do not covet.^(D)[a]

⁹ The commandments:

and whatever other commandment—all are summed up by this: Love your neighbor as yourself.^(B)[c]

³ But sexual immorality^(A) and any impurity^(B) or greed^(C) should not even be heard of^[a] among you, as is proper for saints.

⁵ For know and recognize this: Every sexually immoral^(A) or impure^(B) or greedy^(C) person, who is an idolater, does not have an inheritance in the kingdom^(D) of the Messiah and of God.

⁵ Your life should be free from the love of money. Be satisfied with what you have, for He Himself has said, I will never leave you or forsake you.^(A)[a]
