¹⁶ Parents are not to be put to death for their children, nor children put to death for their parents; each will die for their own sin.^(A)

⁶ Yet he did not put the children of the assassins to death, in accordance with what is written in the Book of the Law^(A) of Moses where the Lord commanded: “Parents are not to be put to death for their children, nor children put to death for their parents; each will die for their own sin.”^[a](B)

“‘Then they will know that I am the Lord.^(C)’”

¹⁴ even if these three men—Noah,^(A) Daniel^[a](B) and Job^(C)—were in it, they could save only themselves by their righteousness,^(D) declares the Sovereign Lord.

²⁷ For the Son of Man^(A) is going to come^(B) in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done.^(C)
