18 Then once again I fell(A) prostrate before the Lord for forty days and forty nights; I ate no bread and drank no water,(B) because of all the sin you had committed,(C) doing what was evil in the Lord’s sight and so arousing his anger. 19 I feared the anger and wrath of the Lord, for he was angry enough with you to destroy you.(D) But again the Lord listened to me.(E) 20 And the Lord was angry enough with Aaron to destroy him, but at that time I prayed for Aaron too. 21 Also I took that sinful thing of yours, the calf you had made, and burned it in the fire. Then I crushed it and ground it to powder as fine as dust(F) and threw the dust into a stream that flowed down the mountain.(G)

22 You also made the Lord angry(H) at Taberah,(I) at Massah(J) and at Kibroth Hattaavah.(K)

23 And when the Lord sent you out from Kadesh Barnea,(L) he said, “Go up and take possession(M) of the land I have given you.” But you rebelled(N) against the command of the Lord your God. You did not trust(O) him or obey him. 24 You have been rebellious against the Lord ever since I have known you.(P)

25 I lay prostrate before the Lord those forty days and forty nights(Q) because the Lord had said he would destroy you.(R)

18 Then I fell down before Adonai, as I had the first time, for forty days and nights, during which time I neither ate food nor drank water, all because of the sin you committed by doing what was evil in the sight of Adonai and thus provoking him. 19 I was terrified that because of how angry Adonai was at you, of how heatedly displeased he was, that he would destroy you. But Adonai listened to me that time too. 20 In addition, Adonai was very angry with Aharon and would have destroyed him; but I prayed for Aharon also at the same time. 21 I took your sin, the calf you had made, and burned it up in the fire, beat it to pieces, and ground it up still smaller, until it was as fine as dust; then I threw its dust into the stream coming down from the mountain.

22 “Again at Tav‘erah, Massah and Kivrot-HaTa’avah you made Adonai angry; 23 and when Adonai sent you off from Kadesh-Barnea by saying, ‘Go up and take possession of the land I have given you,’ you rebelled against the order of Adonai your God — you neither trusted him nor heeded what he said. 24 You have been rebelling against Adonai from the day I first knew you!

25 “So I fell down before Adonai for those forty days and nights; and I lay there; because Adonai had said he would destroy you.

18 (A)Then I fell down before the Lord (B)like the first time, for forty days and nights; (C)I neither ate bread nor drank water, (D)because of all your sin which you had committed by doing what was evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke Him to anger. 19 For (E)I was afraid of the anger and the rage with which the Lord was angry with you so as to destroy you; (F)but the Lord listened to me that time as well. 20 The Lord was also angry enough with Aaron to destroy him; so I also prayed for Aaron at the same time. 21 (G)And I took your [a]sinful thing which you had made, the calf, and burned it in the fire and crushed it, grinding it thoroughly until it was as fine as dust; and I threw its dust into the stream that came down from the mountain.

22 “Then at (H)Taberah, at (I)Massah, and at (J)Kibroth-hattaavah you kept provoking the Lord to anger. 23 And when the Lord sent you from (K)Kadesh-barnea, saying, ‘(L)Go up and take possession of the land which I have given you,’ you rebelled against the [b]command of the Lord your God; (M)you neither trusted Him nor listened to His voice. 24 (N)You have been rebellious toward the Lord since the day I knew you.

25 (O)So I fell down before the Lord for the forty days and nights, which I [c]did because the Lord said He would destroy you.
