² and if the sign^(A) or wonder spoken of takes place, and the prophet says, “Let us follow other gods”^(B) (gods you have not known) “and let us worship them,” ³ you must not listen to the words of that prophet^(C) or dreamer.^(D) The Lord your God is testing^(E) you to find out whether you love^(F) him with all your heart and with all your soul.

¹⁸ I will raise up for them a prophet^(A) like you from among their fellow Israelites, and I will put my words^(B) in his mouth.^(C) He will tell them everything I command him.^(D)

⁷ You must speak^(A) my words to them, whether they listen or fail to listen, for they are rebellious.^(B)

¹⁶ Then I said to the priests and all these people, “This is what the Lord says: Do not listen to the prophets who say, ‘Very soon now the articles^(A) from the Lord’s house will be brought back from Babylon.’ They are prophesying lies to you.
