¹⁸ You deserted the Rock, who fathered you;
    you forgot^(A) the God who gave you birth.

¹⁰ You have forgotten^(A) God your Savior;^(B)
    you have not remembered the Rock,^(C) your fortress.^(D)
Therefore, though you set out the finest plants
    and plant imported vines,^(E)

³² Does a young woman forget her jewelry,
    a bride her wedding ornaments?
Yet my people have forgotten^(A) me,
    days without number.

²¹ They forgot the God^(A) who saved them,
    who had done great things^(B) in Egypt,

⁴ He is the Rock,^(A) his works are perfect,^(B)
    and all his ways are just.
A faithful God^(C) who does no wrong,
    upright^(D) and just is he.^(E)

¹⁴ Israel has forgotten^(A) their Maker^(B)
    and built palaces;
    Judah has fortified many towns.
But I will send fire on their cities
    that will consume their fortresses.”^(C)

¹⁰ You counted the buildings in Jerusalem
    and tore down houses^(A) to strengthen the wall.^(B)
11 You built a reservoir between the two walls^(C)
    for the water of the Old Pool,^(D)
but you did not look to the One who made it,
    or have regard^(E) for the One who planned^(F) it long ago.

²⁰ If we had forgotten^(A) the name of our God
    or spread out our hands to a foreign god,^(B)
21 would not God have discovered it,
    since he knows the secrets of the heart?^(C)
22 Yet for your sake we face death all day long;
    we are considered as sheep^(D) to be slaughtered.^(E)

¹⁷ The wicked go down to the realm of the dead,^(A)
    all the nations that forget God.^(B)
