²⁷ For I know how rebellious^(A) and stiff-necked^(B) you are. If you have been rebellious against the Lord while I am still alive and with you, how much more will you rebel after I die!

²⁴ You have been rebellious against the Lord ever since I have known you.^(A)

⁵¹ “You stiff-necked people!^(A) Your hearts^(B) and ears are still uncircumcised. You are just like your ancestors: You always resist the Holy Spirit!

⁶ Understand, then, that it is not because of your righteousness that the Lord your God is giving you this good land to possess, for you are a stiff-necked people.^(A)

The Golden Calf

⁷ Remember this and never forget how you aroused the anger^(B) of the Lord your God in the wilderness. From the day you left Egypt until you arrived here, you have been rebellious^(C) against the Lord.^(D)

⁸ They have been quick to turn away^(A) from what I commanded them and have made themselves an idol^(B) cast in the shape of a calf.^(C) They have bowed down to it and sacrificed^(D) to it and have said, ‘These are your gods, Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt.’^(E)

⁹ “I have seen these people,” the Lord said to Moses, “and they are a stiff-necked^(F) people.
