¹⁷ Indeed, you shall annihilate them—the Hittites and the Amorites, the Canaanites and the Perizzites, the Hivites and the Jebusites—just as the Lord your God has commanded,

²¹ I will summon the sword against Gog^[a] in^[b] all my mountains, says the Lord God; the swords of all will be against their comrades.^{(A) 22} With pestilence and bloodshed I will enter into judgment with him, and I will pour down torrential rains and hailstones, fire and sulfur upon him and his troops and the many peoples who are with him.^{(B) 23} So I will display my greatness and my holiness and make myself known in the eyes of many nations. Then they shall know that I am the Lord.^(C)

³⁹ Therefore wild animals shall live with hyenas in Babylon,^[c] and ostriches shall inhabit her; she shall never again be peopled or inhabited for all generations.^{(E) 40} As when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and their neighbors, says the Lord, so no one shall live there, nor shall anyone settle in her.^(F)

¹⁰ Accursed is the one who is slack in doing the work of the Lord, and accursed is the one who keeps back the sword from bloodshed.^(A)

A Chosen People

7 “When the Lord your God brings you into the land that you are about to enter and occupy and he clears away many nations before you—the Hittites, the Girgashites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations more numerous and mightier than you^(A)— ² and when the Lord your God gives them over to you and you defeat them, then you must utterly destroy them. Make no covenant with them and show them no mercy.^(B)

¹⁸ to eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of the mighty, the flesh of horses and their riders—flesh of all, both free and slave, both small and great.”^(A)
