A New Prophet Like Moses

¹⁵ “The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own people; you shall heed such a prophet.^[a](A)

²² Moses said, ‘The Lord your God will raise up for you from your own people a prophet like me. You must listen to whatever he tells you.^{(A) 23} And it will be that everyone who does not listen to that prophet will be utterly rooted out of the people.’

³⁷ This is the Moses who said to the Israelites, ‘God will raise up a prophet for you from your own people as he raised me up.’^(A)

⁴⁵ Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found him about whom Moses in the Law and also the Prophets wrote, Jesus son of Joseph from Nazareth.”^(A)

God Has Spoken by His Son

1 Long ago God spoke to our ancestors in many and various ways by the prophets, ² but in these last days he has spoken to us by a Son,^[a] whom he appointed heir of all things, through whom he also created the worlds.^(A)

⁵ For

³⁵ Then from the cloud came a voice that said, “This is my Son, my Chosen;^[a] listen to him!”^(A)

⁵ While he was still speaking, suddenly a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, the Beloved;^[a] with him I am well pleased; listen to him!”^(A)

²⁹ Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.”^(A)

¹⁸ I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their own people; I will put my words in the mouth of the prophet,^[a] who shall speak to them everything that I command.^{(A) 19} Anyone who does not heed the words that the prophet^[b] shall speak in my name, I myself will hold accountable.^(B)
