The Beast from the Earth

¹¹ Then I saw another beast ^(A)coming up out of the earth, and he had two horns like a lamb and spoke like a dragon. ¹² And he exercises all the authority of the first beast in his presence, and causes the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast, ^(B)whose deadly wound was healed. ^13 (C)He performs great signs, ^(D)so that he even makes fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men. ^14 (E)And he deceives ^[a]those who dwell on the earth ^(F)by those signs which he was granted to do in the sight of the beast, telling those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast who was wounded by the sword ^(G)and lived.

⁹ The coming of the lawless one is ^(A)according to the working of Satan, with all power, ^(B)signs, and lying wonders, ¹⁰ and with all unrighteous deception among ^(C)those who perish, because they did not receive ^(D)the love of the truth, that they might be saved. ¹¹ And ^(E)for this reason God will send them strong delusion, ^(F)that they should believe the lie,

^20 (A)Then the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast and ^(B)those who worshiped his image. ^(C)These two were cast alive into the lake of fire ^(D)burning with brimstone.

The Great Apostasy

4 Now the Spirit ^[a]expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed ^(A)to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons,

^9 (A)And out of one of them came a little horn which grew exceedingly great toward the south, ^(B)toward the east, and toward the ^(C)Glorious Land. ^10 (D)And it grew up to ^(E)the host of heaven; and ^(F)it cast down some of the host and some of the stars to the ground, and trampled them. ^11 (G)He even exalted himself as high as ^(H)the Prince of the host; ^(I)and by him ^(J)the daily sacrifices were taken away, and the place of ^[a]His sanctuary was cast down. ¹² Because of transgression, ^(K)an army was given over to the horn to oppose the daily sacrifices; and he cast ^(L)truth down to the ground. He ^(M)did all this and prospered.

²⁰ and the ten horns that were on its head, and the other horn which came up, before which three fell, namely, that horn which had eyes and a mouth which spoke ^[a]pompous words, whose appearance was greater than his fellows.

¹¹ “I watched then because of the sound of the ^[a]pompous words which the horn was speaking; ^(A)I watched till the beast was slain, and its body destroyed and given to the burning flame.

⁸ I was considering the horns, and ^(A)there was another horn, a little one, coming up among them, before whom three of the first horns were plucked out by the roots. And there, in this horn, were eyes like the eyes ^(B)of a man, ^(C)and a mouth speaking ^[a]pompous words.
