²¹ As I looked, this horn ^(A)made war with the saints and prevailed over them,

⁷ And I heard ^(A)the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the stream; ^(B)he raised his right hand and his left hand toward heaven and ^(C)swore by him who lives forever that it would be for a ^(D)time, times, and half a time, and that when the shattering of ^(E)the power of ^(F)the holy people comes to an end all these things would be finished.

²⁴ His power shall be great—^(A)but not by his own power; and he shall cause fearful destruction ^(B)and shall succeed in what he does, ^(C)and destroy mighty men and the people who are the saints.

¹⁴ They ^(A)will make war on the Lamb, and ^(B)the Lamb will conquer them, for he is ^(C)Lord of lords and ^(D)King of kings, and those with him are ^(E)called and chosen and faithful.”

⁶ And I saw the woman, drunk ^(A)with the blood of the saints, the blood of ^(B)the martyrs of Jesus.^[a]

When I saw her, I marveled greatly.

⁵ And the beast was given ^(A)a mouth uttering haughty and blasphemous words, and it was allowed to exercise authority for ^(B)forty-two months. ⁶ It opened its mouth to utter blasphemies against God, blaspheming his name and his dwelling,^[a] that is, those who dwell in heaven. ⁷ Also it was allowed ^(C)to make war on the saints and to conquer them.^[b] And authority was given it over every tribe and people and language and nation, ⁸ and all ^(D)who dwell on earth will worship it, everyone whose name has not been written before the foundation of the world in ^(E)the book of life of ^(F)the Lamb ^(G)who was slain. ^9 (H)If anyone has an ear, let him hear:

^(K)Here is a call for the endurance and faith of the saints.

The Second Beast

¹¹ Then ^(L)I saw another beast rising out of the earth. It had two horns like a lamb and it spoke like a dragon. ¹² It exercises all the authority of the first beast in its presence,^[c] and makes the earth and its inhabitants worship the first beast, ^(M)whose mortal wound was healed. ^13 (N)It performs great signs, even ^(O)making fire come down from heaven to earth in front of people, ¹⁴ and by the signs that it is allowed to work in the presence of^[d] the beast ^(P)it deceives those who dwell on earth, telling them to make an image for the beast ^(Q)that was wounded by the sword and yet lived. ¹⁵ And it was allowed to give breath to the image of the beast, so that the image of the beast might even speak and might cause those who would not ^(R)worship the image of the beast ^(S)to be slain. ¹⁶ Also it causes all, both small and great, both rich and poor, both free and slave,^{[e] (T)}to be marked on the right hand or the forehead, ¹⁷ so that no one can buy or sell unless he has the mark, that is, ^(U)the name of the beast or ^(V)the number of its name. ^18 (W)This calls for wisdom: let the one who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number ^(X)of a man, and his number is 666.^[f]

³ And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great ^(A)red dragon, ^(B)with seven heads and ^(C)ten horns, and on his heads ^(D)seven diadems. ⁴ His tail swept down ^(E)a third of the stars of heaven and ^(F)cast them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that when she bore her child ^(G)he might devour it.

¹⁹ And I saw ^(A)the beast and the kings of the earth with their armies ^(B)gathered to make war against him who was sitting on the horse and against his army.

⁷ And when they have finished their testimony, ^(A)the beast that rises from ^(B)the bottomless pit^{[a] (C)}will make war on them and conquer them and kill them, ⁸ and their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city that symbolically^[b] is called ^(D)Sodom and ^(E)Egypt, where their Lord was crucified. ⁹ For three and a half days some from the peoples and tribes and languages and nations will gaze at their dead bodies and ^(F)refuse to let them be placed in a tomb,
