¹⁷ “As for these four great beasts, four kings shall arise out of the earth.

The Second Beast

¹¹ Then I saw another beast that rose out of the earth; it had two horns like a lamb, and it spoke like a dragon.

13 ¹ And I saw a beast rising out of the sea, with ten horns and seven heads, and on its horns were ten diadems, and on its heads were blasphemous names.^(A)

³⁶ Jesus answered, “My kingdom does not belong to this world. If my kingdom belonged to this world, my followers would be fighting to keep me from being handed over to the Jews. But as it is, my kingdom is not from here.”^(A)

¹⁹ He said, “Listen, and I will tell you what will take place later in the period of wrath, for it refers to the appointed time of the end.^{(A) 20} As for the ram that you saw with the two horns, these are the kings of Media and Persia. ²¹ The male goat^[a] is the king of Greece, and the great horn between its eyes is the first king.^{(B) 22} As for the horn that was broken, in place of which four others arose, four kingdoms shall arise from his^[b] nation but not with his power.^(C)

³ and four great beasts came up out of the sea, different from one another.^{(A) 4} The first was like a lion and had eagles’ wings. Then, as I watched, its wings were plucked off, and it was lifted up from the ground and made to stand on two feet like a human being, and a human mind was given to it.^(B)

³⁷ You, O king, the king of kings—to whom the God of heaven has given the kingdom, the power, the might, and the glory,^{(A) 38} into whose hand he has given human beings wherever they live, the wild animals of the field, and the birds of the air and whom he has established as ruler over them all—you are the head of gold.^{(B) 39} After you shall arise another kingdom inferior to yours and yet a third kingdom of bronze, which shall rule over the whole earth.^{(C) 40} And there shall be a fourth kingdom, strong as iron; just as iron crushes and smashes everything,^[a] it shall crush and shatter all these.^(D)
