¹⁶ I approached one of those standing there and asked him the meaning of all this.

“So he told me and gave me the interpretation^(A) of these things:

¹³ Then one of the elders asked me, “These in white robes^(A)—who are they, and where did they come from?”

¹⁴ I answered, “Sir, you know.”

And he said, “These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes^(B) and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.^(C)

⁵ Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! See, the Lion^(A) of the tribe of Judah,^(B) the Root of David,^(C) has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.”

⁷ “This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘If you will walk in obedience to me and keep my requirements,^(A) then you will govern my house^(B) and have charge^(C) of my courts, and I will give you a place among these standing here.^(D)

³ While the angel who was speaking to me was leaving, another angel came to meet him

⁸ During the night I had a vision, and there before me was a man mounted on a red^(A) horse. He was standing among the myrtle trees in a ravine. Behind him were red, brown and white horses.^(B)

⁹ I asked, “What are these, my lord?”

The angel^(C) who was talking with me answered, “I will show you what they are.”^(D)

¹⁰ Then the man standing among the myrtle trees explained, “They are the ones the Lord has sent to go throughout the earth.”^(E)

¹¹ And they reported to the angel of the Lord^(F) who was standing among the myrtle trees, “We have gone throughout the earth and found the whole world at rest and in peace.”^(G)

⁵ Then I, Daniel, looked, and there before me stood two others, one on this bank of the river and one on the opposite bank.^{(A) 6} One of them said to the man clothed in linen,^(B) who was above the waters of the river, “How long will it be before these astonishing things are fulfilled?”^(C)

¹¹ He said, “Daniel, you who are highly esteemed,^(A) consider carefully the words I am about to speak to you, and stand up,^(B) for I have now been sent to you.” And when he said this to me, I stood up trembling.

¹² Then he continued, “Do not be afraid,^(C) Daniel. Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble^(D) yourself before your God, your words^(E) were heard, and I have come in response to them.^(F)
