Saul Persecutes the Church
8 (A)Now Saul approved of putting [a]Stephen to death.
And on that day a great persecution [b]began against (B)the church in Jerusalem, and they were all (C)scattered throughout the regions of Judea and (D)Samaria, except for the apostles. 2 Some devout men buried Stephen, and mourned loudly for him. 3 But (E)Saul began ravaging the church, entering house after house; and he would (F)drag away men and women and put them in prison.
Philip in Samaria
4 Therefore, those (G)who had been scattered went through places [c](H)preaching the word. 5 (I)Philip went down to the city of Samaria and began proclaiming the [d]Christ to them. 6 The crowds were paying attention with one mind to what was being said by Philip, as they heard and saw the [e]signs which he was performing. 7 For in the case of many who had (J)unclean spirits, they were coming out of them shouting with a loud voice; and many who had been (K)paralyzed or limped on crutches were healed. 8 So there was (L)much rejoicing in that city.
9 Now a man named Simon had previously been practicing (M)magic in the city and astonishing the people of Samaria, (N)claiming to be someone great; 10 and all the people, from small to great, were paying attention to him, saying, “(O)This man is the Power of God that is called Great.” 11 And they were paying attention to him because for a long time he had astounded them with his (P)magic arts. 12 But when they believed Philip (Q)as he was preaching the good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were being (R)baptized. 13 Now even Simon himself believed; and after being baptized, he continued on with Philip, and as he observed (S)signs and (T)great miracles taking place, he was repeatedly amazed.
14 Now when (U)the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent them (V)Peter and John, 15 who came down and prayed for them (W)that they would receive the Holy Spirit. 16 (For He had (X)not yet fallen upon any of them; they had simply been (Y)baptized [f]in the name of the Lord Jesus.) 17 Then they (Z)began laying their hands on them, and they were (AA)receiving the Holy Spirit. 18 Now when Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money, 19 saying, “Give this authority to me as well, so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.” 20 But Peter said to him, “May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could (AB)acquire the gift of God with money! 21 You have (AC)no part or share in this [g]matter, for your heart is not (AD)right before God. 22 Therefore, repent of this wickedness of yours, and pray to the Lord that, (AE)if possible, the intention of your heart will be forgiven you. 23 For I see that you are [h]in the gall of bitterness and in (AF)the [i]bondage of unrighteousness.” 24 But Simon answered and said, “(AG)Pray to the Lord for me yourselves, so that nothing of what you have said may come upon me.”
An Ethiopian Receives Christ
25 So, when they had solemnly (AH)testified and spoken (AI)the word of the Lord, they started back to Jerusalem, and were (AJ)preaching the gospel to many villages of the (AK)Samaritans.
26 But (AL)an angel of the Lord spoke to (AM)Philip, saying, “Get ready and go [j]south to the road that descends from Jerusalem to (AN)Gaza.” ([k]This is a desert road.) 27 So he got ready and went; and [l](AO)there was an Ethiopian eunuch, a court official of [m]Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was in charge of all her treasure; and he (AP)had come to Jerusalem to worship, 28 and he was returning and sitting in his [n]chariot, and was reading Isaiah the prophet. 29 Then (AQ)the Spirit said to Philip, “Go up and join this [o]chariot.” 30 Philip ran up and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet, and said, “Do you understand what you are reading?” 31 And he said, “Well, how could I, unless someone guides me?” And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him. 32 Now the passage of Scripture which he was reading was this:
“(AR)He was led like a sheep to slaughter;
And like a lamb that is silent before its shearer,
So He does not open His mouth.
33 (AS)In humiliation His justice was taken away;
Who will [p]describe His [q]generation?
For His life is taken away from the earth.”
34 The eunuch answered Philip and said, “Please tell me, of whom does the prophet say this? Of himself, or of someone else?” 35 Then Philip (AT)opened his mouth, and (AU)beginning from this Scripture he (AV)preached Jesus to him. 36 As they went along the road they came to some water; and the eunuch *said, “Look! Water! (AW)What prevents me from being baptized?”[r] 38 And he ordered that the [s]chariot stop; and they both went down into the water, Philip as well as the eunuch, and he baptized him. 39 When they came up out of the water, (AX)the Spirit of the Lord snatched Philip away; and the eunuch no longer saw him, [t]but went on his way rejoicing. 40 But Philip [u]found himself at [v](AY)Azotus, and as he passed through he (AZ)kept preaching the gospel to all the cities, until he came to (BA)Caesarea.

Velké pronásledování rozptýlilo věřící
8 1-3 Kristovi následovníci odnesli Štěpánovo tělo a pohřbili je. Církev byla velice zarmoucena jeho smrtí. Pro křesťany v Jeruzalémě nastaly zlé časy a všichni – kromě apoštolů – se rozptýlili po Judsku i Samařsku. Saul se teď chopil iniciativy: pronásledoval církev, vnikal do soukromých domů a dával zatýkat věřící muže a ženy, kteří se tam scházeli. 4 Ti, kdo uprchli z Jeruzaléma, se však neskrývali, ale na svých cestách šířili Boží poselství.
5 Filip, další ze sedmi zvolených pracovníků, se dostal do města Samaří a tam hlásal Krista. 6 Celé zástupy lidí mu pozorně naslouchaly, zvláště když se staly svědky Filipových mocných činů. 7-8 Uzdravil totiž mnoho posedlých, ochrnutých i chromých a město bylo brzo plné těchto radostných zpráv. Mnoho mužů i žen uvěřilo Filipově zvěsti o Božím království a o tom, kdo je Ježíš Kristus, a dávali se od něho pokřtít.
Filip a Šimon kouzelník
9 V Samaří žil také nějaký Šimon, který ze sebe dělal velkou osobnost, ale vlastně jen pletl Samařanům hlavu kouzelnými triky a magií. 10-11 Měl však velkou autoritu u prostých i významných lidí a obecně se soudilo, že jeho síla pochází od Boha. 12-13 Tento Šimon sledoval pozorně Filipa a zachvátila ho posvátná hrůza nad skutečnými zázraky, vykonanými Boží mocí. Vyznal víru v Krista, dal se pokřtít a skoro se od Filipa nehnul.
14 Apoštolové v Jeruzalémě se dověděli, že také Samařsko přijalo Boží zvěst, a vyslali tam Petra a Jana. 15-16 U Samařanů se zatím projevovala práce svatého Ducha tím, že se obraceli ke Kristu a byli pokřtěni. Petr a Jan se modlili, aby i samařským věřícím byla dána moc svatého Ducha. 17 Pak na ně kladli ruce a skutečně i skrze Samařany začala působit Boží moc.
18 Když Šimon viděl, co se dělo s lidmi, na které apoštolové položili ruce, přinesl jim peníze s prosbou: 19 „Dejte i mně tu moc, abych mohl pokládáním rukou udělovat Ducha svatého!“ 20 Petr mu řekl: „Ty tvé peníze tě ještě přivedou do zatracení. Copak myslíš, že se takový Boží dar dá koupit? 21 Předávat Ducha ti nepřísluší a ztrácíš i to, co jsi dostal, protože chceš jednat s Bohem nečestně. 22 Uznej, že je to tak, a pros Boha, snad ti tvůj špinavý úmysl odpustí. 23 Vidím, že v tobě hlodá závist a ještě nejsi osvobozen od své hříšné minulosti.“ 24 Šimon zahanbeně prosil: „Modlete se za mne, aby mne Pán nepotrestal.“
25 Apoštolové také vykládali Kristova slova a dotvrzovali je tím, co na vlastní oči viděli. Také na zpáteční cestě do Jeruzaléma rozhlašovali evangelium po samařských vesnicích.
Etiopský ministr financí prvním africkým křesťanem
26 Filip dostal pokyn od Božího anděla: „Připrav se a jdi na silnici z Jeruzaléma do Gázy, tam, kde prochází pouští.“ 27 Filip se hned vydal na cestu. Brzy uviděl průvod etiopského hodnostáře, ministra financí kandaky, jak se tehdy nazývala vládkyně Etiopie a Súdánu. Byl v Jeruzalémě, aby vzýval Boha, 28 a teď jel zpátky a na voze si četl svitek proroka Izajáše. 29 Boží Duch vnukl Filipovi: „Dohoň ten vůz!“ 30 Filip přiběhl k vozu a tu slyší, že si černoch nahlas předčítá z knihy Izajášových proroctví. Filip se zeptal: „Říká ti to něco?“ 31 Ministr mu odpověděl: „Neříká, potřeboval bych to vyložit. Pojď si ke mně sednout a pomoz mi!“
32 Právě četl slova:
„Byl veden jako ovce na porážku,
a jako beránek ztichne, když mu stříhají vlnu,
tak ani on neotevřel ústa.
33 Ponížili ho a nespravedlivě odsoudili.
Kdo by čekal, že bude mít tolik potomků,
když ho přece zabili!“
34 Dvořan se zeptal Filipa: „Prosím tě, to mluvil prorok o sobě, nebo o někom jiném?“ 35 A tak Filip navázal na to prorocké slovo a ukázal, jak se vyplnilo na Ježíšovi.
36 Cestou přijeli k nějaké vodě. Dvořan zvolal: „Podívej se, voda! Mohl bych i já být pokřtěn?“ 37 Filip na to: „Jestliže jsi uvěřil celým srdcem, proč ne?“ A on vyznal: „Věřím, že Ježíš Kristus je Boží Syn.“ 38 Etiopský ministr dal příkaz k zastavení, vstoupil s Filipem do vody a ten ho pokřtil. 39 Když se vrátili na břeh, Kristův Duch způsobil, že se Filip ztratil dvořanovi z očí. Musel tedy pokračovat sám, ale měl velkou radost. 40 Filip se pak objevil v Azotu, prošel celým krajem až k Césareji a ve všech městech zvěstoval Ježíše.

11 Dhe e dëgjonin, sepse prej një kohe të gjatë ai i kishte mahnitur me mjeshtrinë e tij prej magjistari.
12 Por, kur i besuan Filipit, që shpalli lajmin e mirë të gjërave të mbretërisë së Perëndisë dhe emrin e Jezu Krishtit, burra dhe gra u pagëzuan.
13 Besoi edhe Simoni dhe, mbasi u pagëzua, rrinte vazhdimisht me Filipin; dhe, duke parë veprat e fuqishme dhe shenjat që ishin bërë, mbeti i çuditur.
14 Por kur apostujt dëgjuan në Jeruzalem se Samaria kishte pranuar fjalën e Perëndisë, i dërguan atyre Pjetrin dhe Gjonin.
15 Kur këta arritën, u lutën për ta, që të merrnin Frymën e Shenjtë,
16 sepse ende nuk kishte zbritur mbi asnjë prej tyre, por ata vetëm ishin pagëzuar në emër të Zotit Jezus.
17 Atëherë vunë duart mbi ta dhe ata morën Frymën e Shenjtë.
18 Dhe Simoni, kur pa se me vënien e duarve të apostujve jepej Fryma e Shenjtë, u ofroi atyre para,
19 duke thënë: “Ma jepni edhe mua këtë pushtet, që ai të cilit do t’i vë duart, të marrë Frymën e Shenjtë.”
20 Por Pjetri i tha: “Le të humbasë paraja jote dhe ti bashkë me të, sepse ti mendove se mund ta blesh me para dhuratën e Perëndisë.
21 Ti nuk ke as pjesë as short në këtë gjë, sepse zemra jote nuk është e drejtë përpara Perëndisë.
22 Pendohu, pra, për këtë ligësi që ke dhe lutju Perëndisë që, po të jetë e mundur, të të falet mendimi i zemrës sate.
23 Sepse unë të shoh se je në vrerin e hidhësisë dhe në prangat e paudhësisë.”
24 Dhe Simoni, duke u përgjigjur, tha: “Lutjuni ju Zotit për mua, që të mos më ndodhë asgjë nga ato që thatë.”
25 Ata, pra, pasi dhanë dëshmi dhe predikuan fjalën e Zotit, u kthyen në Jeruzalem, mbasi ungjillzuan shumë fshatra të Samaritanëve.

34 Dhe eunuku iu kthye Filipit dhe tha: “Të lutem, për kë e thotë profeti këtë? Për veten e vet apo për ndonjë tjetër?.”
35 Atëherë e mori fjalën Filipi dhe, duke filluar nga ky Shkrim, i shpalli Jezusin.
36 Dhe, ndërsa po vazhdonin rrugën, arritën në një vend me ujë. Dhe eunuku tha: “Ja uji! Çfarë më pengon të pagëzohem?.”
37 Dhe Filipi tha: “Nëse ti beson me gjithë zemër, mund ta bësh.” Dhe ai u përgjigj duke thënë: “Unë besoj se Jezu Krishti është Biri i Perëndisë.”
38 Urdhëroi atëherë të ndalet karroca, dhe të dy, Filipi dhe eunuku, zbritën në ujë dhe ai e pagëzoi.
39 Kur dolën nga uji, Fryma e Zotit e rrëmbeu Filipin dhe eunuku nuk e pa më; por e vazhdoi rrugën e tij me plot gëzim.
40 Por Filipi u gjet në Azot; dhe, duke vazhduar, ungjillëzoi të gjitha qytetet, derisa arriti në Cezare.
